Duvoch - Skeleton City by MrHuxley Duvoch - Skeleton City by MrHuxley
This was probably the most taxing thing I've ever painted. I've learned that I have a tough time wrapping my head around architecture. I've also learned that I have a tendency to make my art projects much more difficult than I need to. :lmao:

Before I get into narrative description, I'd like to give a very special thanks to :icondavid-holland:, both for his excellent landscape tutorials, and for his brushes that made this possible. Check him out, and :+fav: as many of his works as possible, because he deserves it. Also, his icon looks how I feel after this project. lol.

"Welcome to the East District of Duvoch, locally known as Skeleton City. Buildings in this port-side of the city are primarily refashioned frames and cargo boxes. The decor attracted several savvy business people over time, due to the unique nature of the area's tall, close-quartered buildings keeping the district in perpetual shadow. Night-life found its eternal party here, and a brief stroll between blocks can find you all manner of gambling, food, and debauchery. Some restaurants and clubs, such as the Tower View Cafe, market themselves on their private views of the Vigilante Citadel, the tallest tower in Duvoch. Being the closest district to the ports, Skeleton City is also popular for black-market dealings, as goods are sifted through the watchful eye of the Gargoyle gang."

having checked your artwork from oldest to newest just now I have to say it is nice that you describe some behind-the-scenes stuff from creating your artwork - tutorials, ideas, techiniques you used, sometimes we don't notice these ourselves, looking at any given art, but the knowledge is very helpful!

As for the Duvoch - it is amazing, so much detail and gloomy lights at the street level makes us FEEL how it could be if we were there. How long did it take to finish?

Oh goodness, this took me a lot longer than I hoped it would. I would guess somewhere around ten hours or so.
I'm very happy that you found my behind-the-scenes tips helpful! I don't know how many people bother to read those, but if even one person appreciates it, I'd say it was worth the effort! =)

Also, since I noticed you're listed as being from Poland, and are likely much more familiar with European languages than I am - What nationality does "Duvoch" sound like to you? Does it sound like any words in Polish, or any other languages you might know? I always have concerns that the fictional names I come up with will end up being a swear word in another country. :lmao:

Thanks again for the lovely comments!

I asked about the time, since I am somehow sure I would never paint something like that even in 30 hours, haha. I tend to paint stuff in, like, 5-7, and sometimes the time doesn't depend on simplicity at all, so some of seemingly simple pieces took me 8 hours of work..
then again, I get distracted easily, and later I realise I sped the whole day making the picture, but the real time was 2-3 hours in total, the rest of the time was doing some other things in the meantime : )

As for Duvoch,I am not sure it sounds anyhow european. Perhaps because of 'v', which doesn't appear natively in many european languages. If I were to fit something, it would probably be something more of eastern Europe, Ukraine, Slovakia or Russia, but based on how you would pronounce it, not spelling.
And, as far as I know, it's not a swear word in polish, german or norwegian, these are the languages I know : P And it doesn't sound like any polish word... I mean, if I struggled hard to find some words, I would, but it would be veeery forced : P

Thank you so much for the feedback, it's incredibly helpful! I was hoping for a not-quite-Russian sound, so it's good to know that 'v' is uncommon for the area. =)
